VBS Volunteers 2010
This year's Vacation Bible School is scheduled for July 11 - 16, 2010.
Prep Week is July 5-10, 24/7
Evening Class is July 11-15, 6:30-8:30 pm
Morning Class is July 12-16, 9:30-11:30 am
To help as a teacher or assistant with VBS involves showing up 30-45 minutes before the session and staying about 30 minutes after the session. Helpers should be available each day of the week and come the week before to help with decorations as much as possible. The VBS prep week is from July 5 through 11, where the church is open from 9am to 11pm every day for the rooms to get decorated and for everything to get ready. If your family will be in town, I would encourage you to come over several days, the youth usually help decorate several rooms. It is a fun experience if you can fit in a couple evenings to come and help out as well. June 4th is a big date where we get all the volunteers together and go over the basic design layout so everyone can begin working on the transformation of the church into a canyon of adventure.
The VBS schedule is 2 hours long. There are 4 stations that the children are taken to. Everyone starts out in a group session in the worship center where they learn a couple songs and there is a 15 minute skit. The K, 1st, 2nd grades go to one set of rooms, the 3rd, 4th, 5th grades go to a second set of rooms. Each age range has a craft, exercise class (outside usually), snack time, and story telling time (where we go through the main stories).
We need a good group of folks to help return the church to normal after the VBS party. We start cleaning up around 9pm and finish when we finish.
(sometimes midnight, sometimes 2am.) Then anyone who is still awake joins us at Steak and Shake on Sawmill for some snacks before heading home.
